Atlanta, GA – Atlanta Braves fans across the country can join Manager Fredi Gonzalez and step up to the plate to help Marietta resident Cindy Donald accomplish her dream of making a lasting difference in the lives of those suffering from spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries.
Mr. Gonzalez and Ms. Donald announced today at Turner Field the establishment of Cindy's Walks for Recovery, a fundraising program through which fans can donate a dollar amount of their choosing for each base on balls drawn by a Braves batter during the 2013 season.
The tax-deductible donations – as little as 10 cents per walk for individuals and $10.00 per walk for corporate partners – will allow the Cindy Donald Dreams of Recovery Foundation to provide financial grants to a waiting list of individuals to participate in approved therapy programs which are not covered by insurance as well as to purchase necessary equipment to improve daily life.
"I am so honored to know Cindy and to be a part of her tireless efforts to improve the lives of those who, like her, have suffered a spinal-cord or traumatic brain injury," Gonzalez said. "Cindy's Walks for Recovery program is a terrific way for many caring people to become a part of our team in a very meaningful and impactful way."
Said Cindy: "I can't thank Fredi and the Atlanta Braves organization enough for being so supportive of our efforts and for making the Walks for Recovery program a reality. It will truly help make a difference in so many lives."
In 2008, while still undergoing her own grueling physical therapy after a tragic accident in 2005 left her paralyzed from the neck down, Cindy – with the help of family, friends and area residents that she didn't even know at the time of her accident – established the "Cindy Donald Dreams of Recovery Foundation" with the simple philosophy that "helping others is the best therapy."
